先日のお休みは、腕の痛みも落ち着いてたので寒くなる前に海へ・・・
前回のBLOGに同じ症状の方がアドバイスくれて…
海に入る前にロキソニン（鎮痛剤）飲んでから入ってて、
だんだん良くなったと言う事なんで僕も試しにやってみました。
薬が効いてるのか？元々調子がよかったのか定かではないが？？？
結果オーライ！
今までのように毎日のストレッチして調子良ければ、海へ行くって感じでしばらくこの病気と付き合うしかないようです。
もう今年は無理と思ってたんで、出来てホントによかったです。
それに数年ぶりに痛みのないサーフィンが出来て
「痛くないって事を忘れていた僕には・・・」めちゃ快適でした♪

先月からまた痛みだした頸椎ヘルニアからくる腕も痛みも、最近和らいできた感じ・・・
冷たい海になる前に、そろそろ海で波に乗りたい・・・
土曜日までに痛みが出なければ日曜行ってみようかな？

recurrence
２週間ほど前から一時おさまってた、頸椎ヘルニア原因の腕の痛みが少し出てましたが、
波良さそうで先週海に行って来ました。
波もミッドレングスには丁度イイ波質で楽しめると入ったら・・・
また、腕の激痛で全くパドルする気にもならず、海の上でいるだけ状態。。。
じっとしてるだけでも痛く、ずっと波待ちしながらストレッチ・・・
結局２時間ほどで、3本乗っただけ。。。
今の状態じゃサーフィンどころでは無いです。。。
根本的な治療は手術しかないのかな？？？
とりあえずストレッチ続けて、改善ゼロならペイン治療も試してみようかな・・・
手術したら、店も休まないとダメだし。。。
サーフィンも数ヶ月は行けなくなりそうだし。。。
それに、首にメス入れるのが一番怖い。。。~_~;
とりあえず一番イイ季節なのに、しばらく海は無理そうです。。。(T_T)

LAST SUMMER SESSION
先週のお休みは東ウネリを求めて片道400kmの海へ・・・
サイズは思ってたりdownでしたが、やはり狙いの周期の長い東ウネリ
潮が満ちに動くとFUN WAVEに。。。
そろそろ海も秋になり、北の海の季節の本番ですね！
僕は頸椎ヘルニアの悪化は避けたいので無理せず、真冬のサーフは今年はお休みします。

KEY CASE
先日、海で長年使ってたキーケースが使い物ならなくなりました。。。
キーケースに入れた状態で開かなくなると地獄でした。。。
先日帰ってから、潮で回転部分が固まったと思いましたが・・・
もしかして開けた状態で変にダイヤル触ってしまい違う暗証番号に変わったのかも！？
ヒマなんで００００から始め１０００までやりましたが、全く開く気配なし。。。
もう嫌になって９９９９まではもう嫌！！
ダメもとで前の設定した４桁目からスタートしたら、以前の番号の一つずれた状態で開錠〜♪
めちゃくちゃ嬉しかった！（今月で一番嬉しかったかも⁉︎）
かなり動きも悪かったので、こんな機会なんでメンテナンスもする事に！
ダイヤル部分はプラが多いのでCRCじゃ、油はプラに悪影響及ぼす事が多いのでシリコンスプレーで可動部分を鉄部分はCRCで錆落としたら、新品のような滑らかな動き！
みなさん使ってる方も多いと思うので、たまにメンテしてあげると新品に戻りますよ‼︎
昨夜のケリーのウェーブプールのロングボードの大会見ました？
ロングじゃあの波誰でも楽勝と思ってましたが、結構掘れるしタイミングが海とは違うようで、プロも手こずる波で見てても面白かった♪

この２連休も初めは風が入ってて、あんまりよく無さそうだし・・・
ハードだと、またヘルニアが悪化しないと心配なので最終日に一人で海へ
朝一はこんな感じでイマイチだが、明るくなると不思議に良くなるポイント
ウロウロしても無くなりそうなので、サクっと１R
まだ夏のような気候で、水温も温かく楽しめた♪
これからも、無理しない程度でボチボチやりましょう。。。

CUT BACK
皆さんお久しぶりです。
もうBLOG辞めたと思ってた方もいると思いますが・・・
この約半年間、腕の痛みに悩まされてきました。。。
サーフィンは元より私生活にも支障をきたす痛みが続き、サーフィンももう終わりと思いました。
色々な病院へ行き、肩が悪いと思ってたら・・・
もちろん悪かったのですが、根本的な原因は「頸椎のヘルニア」
治療法は手術くらいしか無いようで、首の手術は色々考えると怖いので考える事に。。。
サーフィンが出来ず生活全てが絶望感に、コロナ禍と言う事もありホンマに凹みました。
今まで３５年間生活のルーティンに入ってた波乗りがなくなると、マジにやる事が無い事に気付きました。
コロナ禍で外出する事も出来ず、「Amazon primeビデオ」オタクに。。。
でも、これは飽きます。やはり海に戻りたいと言う気持ちが・・・
ダメ元でネットで頸椎ヘルニア・腕・痛み・肩甲骨・・・等のワードで検索すると、
たくさんのストレッチが動画で紹介されてて、もうダメ元で一週間真剣にやってみたら・・・
腕の鈍痛が3日目くらいからマシになって来たような・・・錯覚？？？
一週間やると錯覚でない事に気づくまでに。。。
もしかして、良くなるかも！？と、１ヶ月続けてみたら普段の生活では鈍痛が８割消えた！
サーフィンまた出来るかも！と今も続けてます。
先日、まだアカンと思いながら小波狙いで試しに海に・・・
どうしても行きたかった理由はもう一つ、5月に出来上がったnewボードを試してみたかった。
痛いのは痛いのだが、なんとか出来る！ただ長時間回せないしテイクオフやドルフィンの押す力がない。
恐々、極力調子の悪い腕を使わないように片パドルでアウトへ、テイクオフもなるべく漕がなくてもいいようなポジションで。。。
そこそこ十分乗れた♪
心配だった、ラウンド後の痛みも思った程なく良かった。
久々のサーフィンは小波でしたが、やはり楽しいし気持ちがイイ！
それに他のスポーツにない充実感と爽快感、それにストレスを洗い流してくれる。
やはり３５年も辞められないのはこんな要素のせいなのかも知れない。

Bob Simmons experimented with short planing hull designs over sixty years ago. Dormant for half a century, these ancestral Simmons designs were brought back to life by the Hydrodynamica Project in 2003. Dimensions for the Hydrodynamica Mini Simmons were taken directly from John Elwell’s dual-keel Simmons planing hull (built by Simmons for John in 1950 in Imperial Beach). The Hydrodynamica Mini Simmons is a true Simmons planing hull design: wide, flat, fast and FUN. Intentionally unmodified but for some slight modernizations.
Hand shaped by Jon Wegener in San Diego.
Glass-on fins only. Premium half-inch thick double foil Baltic birch marine plywood keels hand made in San Diego by master craftsman and fin designer Larry Gephart yyktmade exclusively for Hydrodynamica.

Temporal Collections is an artistic union of surfing and details of nature that defies the pace of a typical surf movie. It's 1 hour 41 minutes of zero aerial surfing in a cinematic portrayal that oscillates between meditative and electric, blurs the lines of gritty and polished, and intertwines linear and nonlinear constructs.
Shot up and down the California coast, featuring the surfing of (in order of appearance) Ryan Burch, Richard Kenvin, Mike Black, Steve Hadley, Justin Adams, Tyler Warren, Scotty Stopnik, Eric Snortum, Derek Hynd, Travers Adler, Kyle Albers, Gilda Hariri, Taylor Miller, and Andrew Buck. The film also includes Ryan Burch's first trip to Grajagan Bay, Java, where he conducts his first test of his Carl Ekstrom inspired asymmetrical boards outside of California waters.

西井がなぜこのボードをインドネシアに持って行ったかと言うと到着まで片道2日間もかかるからボードが壊されないようにしたかったからです。羽田から飛行機に乗りジャカルタへ飛び、もう一度インドネシアの国内線でパダンへフライトし、乗り車でパダンの繁華街のホテルに移動し一泊。翌朝に車で移動しそこから船に４時間乗り目的地の島へ到着。何度もサーフボードを預けたり積み下ろしをするので現地に着いてボードが壊れていてすぐにサーフィンできくなるようなことが無いように、オールラウンドモデルの壊れ難いPLACEBOボードを１本持って行きたかったからなんです。

The Hendrx fish combines traditional surfboard elements with a modern twist, which makes this board the perfect fish shape for all wave conditions.
The all-new Jims Hendrx retro fish has a medium to low entry rocker which helps paddle power and wave catching, combined with a single concave running through the underside along with hard edge through the tail which increases hold and response on the waves face, along with a quad fcs2 fin setup makes this board fast and flighty through rail to rail transitions.

Mirage Mid Length ft Beau Young

The Mirage is the ‘big brother’ to the Middie, offering higher volumes and extra buoyancy for surfers who love catching lots of waves. Plenty of surface area under the chest makes it very stable when up and riding, and the tapered nose and tail means you can still perform nice smooth turns on the wave face.
The bottom has a forward single concave with double concave through the back. This progressive set of contours offsets the extra volume and offers more experienced riders the opportunity to jam tighter turns. Overall the Mirage has a high level of response and a very sensitive feel for a board of this length and size.
The EPS/Epoxy construction provides great buoyancy to weight ratio, and the traditional thruster set up lets you customise the feel by adding your favourite set if fins.
By definition, ‘Midlength’ surfboards borrow traits to a Mini Mal and Funboard such as paddle speed and buoyancy, but offer a higher level of performance with less area in the nose and tail, and more progressive bottom curves (Rocker).
This style of board is perfect for surfers progressing in skill level who are looking to master smooth, flowing turns on the wave face, and intermediate-to-experienced surfers who’re keen to maintain their performance levels and wave count in smaller conditions.

80年代に結成された伝説のスケートチーム「BONES BRIGADE」のメンバーであり、今なおプールライドへの情熱を失わないスケート界のリビングレジェンド、ランス・マウンテンによるアートエキシビジョン『ON MY WALL』がSTÜSSYのサポートにより開催。現在は「STÜSSY SKATE TEAM」の中心メンバーとして活動するランスが、日本国内で長期にわたり設計および施工監修に取り組んだ「I.S.T. BACKYARD POOL」の完成を記念し、自身の認めるプールライダーたちをテーマにしたアート作品がBA-TSU ART GALLERYで展示された。またエキシビジョンの会期に合わせて作品のモチーフとなったスティーブ・オルソン、ブラッド・ボウマン、スティーブ・アルバ、パット・ノーホーらレジェンドライダー陣も来日し、バックヤードプールでライディングを披露し話題となった。エキシビジョンとツアーを主宰したランスに今回のアートショーのコンセプトや経緯、プールライディングの魅力についてインタビューを行った。

Assorted Rides | Devon Howard

"Assorted Rides" is comprised of a few sessions in California where I met up with a surfer I’ve really enjoyed watching over the years. Devon Howard’s approach to surfing inspired the feel of this short—a modern classic. In preparation for this project, I pored over old surf photograpahy books with works by guys like LeRoy Grannis and Ron Stoner. They are photographers that captured moments and told stories through the use of dramatic backlighting and color accents compressed through a manual focus telephoto lens that—when complimented by the grain of film—produced a timeless image. My hope is the short film does two things: 1.) Makes you want to go surfing right now! 2.) To record a moment in time which represents what I think is Devon's best surfing to date, at age 46 no less.
And if curious about what’s going on under his feet, here's what Devon had to say about the boards and the type of surfing we filmed:
"After a few decades of goofing off in the surf, I’ve whittled down what I ride most into two distinct camps—both of which are an obvious extension of the waves, culture and characters where I’ve lived all these years. For the cruisey, under shoulder high days (which there are many), I find classic style single-fin longboards (9’9 to 10’) with a '66 Australian bent are hard to beat. When conditions finally push shoulder high on up to double overhead, my plan shapes dip down a few feet to a range of mostly egg-inspired outlines (6’10 - 7’2”), and the rails, bottom contours and fin set-ups take on a much more revved up form.
I dig how these two design groupings allow an easy transition from one to the next (thank you low rocker and generous volume), but offer discernible shifts in speed, accessibility to different parts of the wave, and maximize the available space on the face. This film short by Florida's Drew Miller captures the back and forth pacing between long and mid sized equipment, the decisions for which are primarily driven by equal parts attitude and surf conditions.
There is absolutely nothing new here in terms of a "horses for courses" approach (thank you Nat Young, Skip Frye, etc), but although well into my mid 40s, I’m still passionate about learning what works, what doesn’t, then plugging that back into the never ending design loop. The stoke for staying on the surf prowl explains why the boards and the ride itself just keeps getting better.”

The outline on the Middie pays tribute to the traditional 70’s shapes. The wide point is forward offering lots of stability when paddling and jumping to your feet, and a tapered tail outline that’ll ‘hold in’ on steeper waves and offer plenty of manoeuvrability when pushing off your back foot. The versatile bottom has a subtle vee up front running into raised double concave vee through the back which creates a high level of response and a very sensitive feel for a board of this length and size.
The EPS/Epoxy construction, with added timber deck inlay, strikes a nice balance between buoyancy, strength, weight and an aesthetic that’s visually stunning. The 2 + 1 fin set up is also a value add offering directional stability when turning.

Two Happy, a performance shortboard model created by Britt Merrick, is the result of working with Dane Reynolds, Parker Coffin, Mikey February and more. Two Happy takes all the speed, flow and maneuverability of the original Happy but makes it more accessible and user friendly for a broader range of surfers and conditions.
With added entry rocker and increased double concave, the Two Happy is looser, rolls rail to rail more easily, and carves better in the pocket.
